MIRAGES OF AN UNLIKELY FUTURE
Series created from the oil on canvas painting by Caspar David Friedrich between 1809–1810 entit led ‘Abbey in the Oak Forest’. The image, repea tedly modified using AI software, aims to lose its connection with the original painting and create a new image following dozens of modifications wi thout giving the AI a specific direction. Following lengthy transformations, the work generates an ethereal atmosphere, as if time had stopped. The machine, committing inaccuracies, generates unusual shapes, as can be seen in the creation of the tree branches. In the original painting, they are similar to those found in nature, whereas in the AI-generated image, they are almost geometric. The coldness of the material used as a support is combined with the cold ness of the image created by an algorithm. The colour of the wall on which the work is placed allows it to maintain contact with the human world, generating unity and bringing the image back to a physical, concrete, real and therefore human di mension.
